2017 R.E. Taylor Student Poster Award at the Society for American Archaeology Meeting in Vancouver, Canada

Submissions are open for the 2017 R.E. Taylor Student Poster Award Competition at the 82nd SAA Meeting

This prestigious award acknowledges innovative student contributions to archaeological research through the application of scientific methods, and has enhanced the careers of prominent young scholars and professionals for more than a decade.  The award is named in honor of Professor Emeritus R. Ervin Taylor of the University of California at Riverside for his outstanding contributions in the development and application of radiocarbon dating in archaeological research, his dedication to the founding of the Society for Archaeological Sciences, his leading roles as President (1980) and General Secretary (1981-2002) of the Society, and his committed service as editor of the SAS Bulletin.  Professor Taylor's many valuable contributions were recognized by the Society for American Archaeology (SAA) in 2004 with the Fryxell Award for Interdisciplinary Research. The student poster award consists of $100 USD, a one-year SAS membership including subscription to the SAS Bulletin, and publication of the winning poster abstract in the Bulletin.
Entries will be judged on the significance of the archaeological problem, appropriateness of the methods used, soundness of conclusions, quality of the poster display, and oral presentation of the poster by the student.  Please note that for the poster to be considered the student must be listed as first author.
  • Students should submit a preliminary application e-mail by March 17th, 2017.  Applications must include the title and abstract of the poster, evidence that you have registered for the SAA meetings (forwarded e-mail from the SAA), and proof of your status as an undergraduate or graduate student (on your SAA registration or a student ID).  The preliminary application is intended to help SAS gauge the number of expected applicants.  If you forgot to submit a preliminary application by March 17th, please contact us before the 24th and ask if you can still submit your poster for consideration.
  • Students will also be required to submit a PDF version of their poster on or before March 24th, 2017Confirmation that your complete application has been received will be e-mailed to you; please keep this confirmation message.
  • All preliminary applications and poster submissions must be sent to Dr. Destiny Crider at: cridde01@luther.edu
  • Judges will be present in person at the SAA meeting to review posters and to ask students questions about their research.  Prizes will be awarded following the end of the last SAA poster session.
  •  Not sure whether your research topic is appropriate for this award? E-mail Dr. Andrew Zipkin at amzipkin@illinois.edu with your questions.

Good luck to all participants in the 2017 R.E. Taylor Student Poster Award Competition!
