New Perspectives on Human Origins

Scientists from the University of Wollongong and others report on the evidence that early hominins were living on the island of Flores, Indonesia, one million years ago. The evidence comes from the argon dating of stone tools in a layer sealed by volcanic ash. Australian ABC News reports on the article published in the most recent issue of Nature.

In addition, the new David H Koch Hall of Human Origins at the Smithsonian Museum of Natural History opened this week. Edward Rothstein of the New York Times reviews the new gallery.
